Our COVID-19 Response
In light of the current circumstances in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to update our network on what we are doing to implement the relevant precautions, whilst also maintaining our construction schedule.
It’s business as usual at delcon design and construct and will remain so as long as the guidelines from the State Government and Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV) enable.
The Prime Minister in a statement in March explicitly stated that construction sites are an essential service and will remain open. Though social distancing and hygiene practices are to be observed.
To ensure the health and safety of our staff, contractors, clients, extended network and the public, delcon are maintaining the following measures:
- Staying informed around changes
- Screening of staff and contractors
- Social distancing as per most current guidelines
- Maintaining personal hygiene practices
- Increased environmental cleaning practises
- Informing staff and contractors of control measures and changes
- Communicating clearly with clients
Staying informed around changes
delcon design & construct Directors are monitoring relevant the Government and MBAV websites and communication frequently in order to be able to respond promptly to changes as they occur.
Screening of staff and contractors
We have implemented a screening procedure as advised by the state government and MBAV where by staff and contractors are to advise of their travel history, if they are experiencing any flu-like symptoms or have been in contact with anyone who is known to be infected by the virus.
Social distancing
Social distancing guidelines include maintaining a separation of at least 1.5m between workers. At delcon we are limiting physical interactions between workers, clients and our extended network by:
- Changes in processes in regard to deliveries
- Restructuring workflows and workspaces, and
- Increasing the use of mobile and virtual methods to communicate
Maintaining personal hygiene practices
In order to maintain hygiene practises on-site, delcon are:
- Ensuring adequate supplies of soap etc are available at all times
- Informing workers of the cleaning and hygiene standards that are expected
- Minimising touch points where possible
Increased environmental cleaning practises
As construction inevitably requires regular touching of objects and surfaces, usual cleaning schedules have been increased.
Frequent touch surfaces and site amenities are cleaned frequently. All parties on site have also been informed of the expectations around cleaning surfaces and equipment after use.
Informing staff and contractors of control measures and changes
Staff and contractors are kept informed of current general and site specific control measures and changes as they occur via electronic mediums. Signage is also used to communicate requirements where possible to provide clear direction and guidance about what is expected.
The delcon team are also aware of when to stay home, and what action to take if they become ill.
Communicating clearly with clients
Strong communication with clients is always a primary focus at delcon design & construct. We are and will continue to inform clients of changes as we become aware of them.
At this time, delcon are not experiencing or expecting delays or alterations to project timelines. Our company structure and professional network is such that it allows us to be flexible and nimble in adapting to environmental changes. Property Development in general is subject to a range of variables that can affect progress. Therefore, we have well established systems that allow us to adapt quickly to changes. We will continue to draw on these as the situation develops.
If you were planning or considering a development project and are looking for advice on how to proceed given the current climate, please get in touch with us. We’ll provide you with an honest, objective assessment of the project at the current time.
