Melbourne Property Development – Interior Design Trends

As we draw to a close on 2020, we have been reflecting on some of 2020’s top design trends. As Melbourne townhouse builders and multi-unit developers, we see common themes throughout the year.

Interior design plays a large part in desirability when building a development. A beautiful space will bring more buyers and often result in a higher sales price, maximising your ROI.

This year, we’ve found 4 repeating elements that many of our clients love and are requesting in their Melbourne developments.

Kit Kat Tiles

Kit Kat tiles have become increasingly popular during 2020, and with good reason. They are affordable and available in a beautiful range of colours and design finishes. Kit Kat tiles are a perfect way to add neutrals that are interesting. Another popular trend we have seen is a marble kit kat splashback, to really add sleekness to your kitchen.

Gold or Brass Tapware

Brass tapware has also proved really popular this year. While brass tapware is by no means a new trend, it has continued to surge in popularity in 2020 thanks to its beauty and versatility. Brass looks particularly good when paired with other natural finishes like marble and timber.

Fluted fittings

Fluting has been a popular feature throughout dual occupancy builds throughout Melbourne, as it brings a modern, unique touch to the playing field while paying tribute to classical architecture. Fluting is a trend that we have welcomed with open arms, as it really does have a timeless elegance that’s not going anywhere, anytime soon. It is a modern, yet classic feature to implement throughout your Melbourne dual occupancy development.

Terrazzo

Cool in the ’70s, and back in a major way in 2020, is terrazzo.  Terrazzo is now not limited just to flooring, think walls, splashbacks and even entire bathroom suites. If maybe redoing your whole bedroom or kitchen in terrazzo isn’t very realistic, terrazzo accents come in all forms.

Our take

Our advice at delcon design and construct, Melbourne’s leading dual occupancy builder is to be selective when adding “now” trends to your upcoming developments, and ensure that you can see the longevity to your design choices, so that your build doesn’t look “2020”. Our team is definitely on hand to help you make the best design choices for your project. All of the design trends listed above are beautiful features for homes, but we would never suggest trying to implement them all into one project. As the saying goes, “less is more” , generally speaking, when it comes to design.

Delcon design and construct are a boutique design and construct team based in Melbourne.

Our focus is on multi-unit property development. We offer a construction only service, as well as a complete turn-key design and construct service where we manage the entire development project for our clients resulting in a finished development investment.

This includes design, development paperwork and application, and construction.
